REHABILITATION AND UPGRADATION OF ARAWALI-KANTE

The Government of India has taken up a massive program of up-gradation and development of National Highways including NH-66 which Connects Mumbai to the entire South of India along the Western Coastal belt. NH-66 originates from Panvel and passes through several districts of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and terminates at Kanyakumari, having overlaps with several NH and other State Highways.

As a part of this program NHDP-IV, the CE, PWD (NH) Govt. of Maharashtra has been entrusted with the upgradation of Arawali-Kante section of NH-66 in the State of Maharashtra to 4-lane with paved shoulder configuration.

HMPL in a JV with RSIL are executing this project under the Hybrid Annuity Mode financial model.

The scope of work will broadly include rehabilitation, up gradation and widening of the existing carriageway to four-lane standards with construction of new pavement, rehabilitation of existing pavement, construction and/or rehabilitation of major and minor bridges, underpasses, culverts, road intersections, drains, etc.

The Project Highway Package-6 starts at Arawali village from existing km 241+300 to existing km 281+300 (Kante village) in the state of Maharashtra. Total Existing Length of Package is 40.00 km. and Design Length of project is 39.24 km. The project highway i.e. Four Lane with Paved Shoulders shall be constructed as per Schedule D. (IRC SP 84: 2014). This 40 km long stretch is entirely characterized by two lane flexible carriageway with earthen shoulders. The project road crosses few rivers and streams.

Terrain

The project road is occupied by ghats in most of the sections with rolling terrain sandwiched in between. The scope is 25% in Hilly (Length 10.00 Km) and 75% in Plain (Length 30.00 Km) Terrain.

Intersections

The project highway crosses State Highways, Major District roads and village roads etc. This section has 3 major junctions that influence the traffic pattern on the project road and 32 minor junctions
